1) Why is this a world issue?
2) How does it make you feel to be a Canadian and to be known worldwide as oppressors to our own people?
3) What are some of the conditions? How did they get this way?
4) What effects does this have on the Indian people of Canada and their society?

This is my post for the week:
ReplyDeleteIt is awful to think that there are native people right here in Ontario that are being treated poorly. I think this is definitely a world issue because there is no reason that anyone should be deprived of any rights or anybody should have a low quality of life for no reason or because they are a First Nations person. I think it is obviously not good to think that us as Canadians are oppressors to our own people and sort of gives us a bad name. However I think it's good that Canada has done a number of things to benefit and improve the quality of life of the First Nations people such as addressing treaty to improve social and economic conditions for the people, adopting the goal of reconciliation, put in place numerous laws, programs and rules, and one of the first people to put the rights of indigenous people in the constitution. Some of the conditions are poor education and no hygiene. The conditions are almost poverty like. This has many effects on the First Nations people living in Canada because of the poor quality of life they have to live.

i agree with both julia and ruth, people seem to think that our country is so fantastic when a large part of it is being mistreated
DeleteI agree completely. People need to be more aware of the mistreatment of our country's Native People. Good post
DeleteI agree Julia that it is sad to think that a large group of people from our own country are living day to day without access to the necessities that we have living off the reserve. Canada has done some work to try to meet with the needs of the people in the past and the preservation of their culture, but still has alot left to do. We do need to continue to invest into supporting these communities with stable investments to help maintain their needed supplies. We need to continue to invest in purchasing water sanitation, food supply, and technology to help with healthcare and access to other goods.
