So again imagine France invaded Quebec and held a referendum to determine if they should separate and become part of France. I mean they already speak the language and have many social and cultural similarities. Moreover, many Quebec residents are descendants of the French so it makes sense. What do you think the reaction would be like worldwide? Would sanctions be put on France and Quebec? Well read this and think about this:
1) How similar is this scenario to Hitler's reign? Hitler hosted an Olympics prior to WWII (just saying)
2) What is Putin's next move?
3) Why should we care?
4) How impressive is it that Putin has been able to consistently pull this kind of stuff off, remain high in the popularity vote, and bring Russia back to it's glory days of the USSR?

This is my weekly post,
ReplyDeleteThis scenario is similar to Hitler’s reign in the way that Putin is using the public to get what he wants, like the article said “One thing that didn't have the appearance of being staged was the joy in that room” during Putin’s appearance at a joint session of Russia parliament. The difference is so far he hasn't used any violence to accomplish what he wants and gained a serious piece of land to add back to Russia. I think Putin’s next move unfortunately will probably to gain even more land because in the end he wants to restore the Soviet Union. We should care because of the new sanctions the United States has put on Russia, sanctions that if are broken may lead to war. If world war III was to break out, Canada would become a part of it, even though this is an extreme scenario, it is possible. I don’t think it’s that impressive that Putin has been able to consistently pull off remaining high in the popularity vote and bring back Russia to its original glory because many leaders have done the same. It’s not original for a leader of a country to try and stay on top and control as much land as possible or become power hungry.
The article below talks about the United States expanding sanctions against Russia to prevent future interference in the Ukraine.

ReplyDeleteAlthough I disagree with Russia essentially taking over Crimea, I do have to admire how Putin has been able to pull off this stunt of his. With what seems like little to no planning leading up to the event ( at least any hits to it.) He was able to convince his nation and others, that he was not invading another country yet simply protecting his own people. Even if they are not technically russians. Not a small feat to do, and the fact he was able to clearly call the western’s bluff up to this point is also quite impressive. As the article states, he has only received petty threats against some of his political allies, not even his country at whole. With his “whatever” attitude one has to respect him but they also have to be fearful of him as well. Where will he draw the line becomes the question, what if he tries to call the western’s countries bluff again only to guess wrong. We really are only able to hope on what his next moves are, and that they will not upset enough people.
